J. Gregg Turner is a graduate of LaSalle University where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Marketing and Business. His related background includes 15 years in manufacturing and distribution, holding positions in sales, marketing, and operations management. Gregg entered the non-profit community in July 2001 as CEO of South Carolina Lions Charitable Services.
Gregg has been a Lions' member since April 1990 and has held every club office including President in 1994-95, 2000-01 and 2009. At the State level he has served as District Governor, Vice District Governor, and State Secretary/Treasurer. Nationally he has served on the Board of Directors for The North American Conference of Lions Foundations having served as President from 2009-2011. He is a graduate of Lions Clubs International Faculty Development Institute and is a certified trainer and presenter. Gregg is also a member of the Association of Fundraising Professionals and the South Carolina Association of Non-profit Organizations.
In recognition of his service to the Lions Association, Turner has received The International President's Medal, five International President's Certificates of Appreciation, The Five Star District Governor Award and The South Carolina Lion of the Year Award. He also received the Distinguished Service Award from the American Academy of Ophthalmology in 2005, the highest honor bestowed on non-members by the Academy.
Gregg is also active in his community where he serves on the School Improvement Council for Newberry County Schools, Treasurer of the PTO and Chairman of the Board for the Newberry County Education Foundation. He is an active member of Wightman United Methodist Church where he has serves on Administrative Council and is Chairman of the Finance Committee. He and his wife Tracie, also a Lion, have two children, a son, Tyler, age 23, and a daughter, McKensey, age 17.
